Colloque international Sécurité alimentaire et nutrition à l’heure des changements climatiques

Professor Sophie Thériault recently participated in the Colloque international Sécurité alimentaire et nutrition à l’heure des changements climatiques. 

Du 24 au 27 septembre, le Gouvernement du Québec, en collaboration avec l’Organisation des Nations Unies pour l’alimentation et l’agriculture (FAO), organise le Colloque international sur la sécurité alimentaire et la nutrition à l’heure des changements climatiques. Près de 225 experts et représentants d’organisations internationales, de la société civile, du secteur privé et de la jeunesse sont attendus au Centre des congrès de Québec.

Her presentation, on September 26, in a panel on the topic of "Augmenter la résilience du système alimentaire dans un Nord en changement", was titled: “La sécurité alimentaire des Inuit et les changements climatiques: repenser la gouvernance du territoire et de la biodiversité dans l’optique de la souveraineté alimentaire”.

Professor Thériault on Climate Justice

Professor Sophie Thériault was recently interviewed for Je vote pour la science about social injustices in the wake of global warming and associated severe weather events, as we have recently witnessed ravaging the Caribbean and the southern United States. 

In Canada, Aboriginal peoples in the North are among the most vulnerable to climate change. How can justice be done for these groups? If a group wants to file a complaint, how can it do so?

Constitution 150 Conference

Professor Nathalie Chalifour will be speaking on a panel moderated by Professor Sophie Thériault at the Constitution 150 Conference in Ottawa on March 9. The panel, on the topic of Charter protection for the environment, also features Professor Lynda Collins (University of Ottawa, Faculty of Law), and Professor Jason MacLean (Lakehead University, Faculty of Law).

The conference marks the 35th anniversary of the patriation of the Canadian Constitution and the enactment of the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms against the background of Canada’s 150th birthday and the 150th birthday of Canada’s Constitution. The focus of the conference is on addressing today’s challenges of today and considering the challenges for the next 10-25 years.
